Dr. Ashwinkumar is a Professor of Journalism & Mass Communication. He teaches at postgraduate level since 1996 at Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad established by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920. After completing B.Sc. in Physics, he started his career as a Junior Telecom Officer in the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India. As a topper in Journalism & Mass Communication at Gujarat University, he was felicitated by 'Bhagvatilal Dahyalal Rao (Khambhat) Journalism Gold Medal' and 'Fulshankar Pattani (Bhuj) Journalism Award.'
Ashwinkumar completed M.Phil. on 'Journalist Gandhiji’s Gujarati language and its relevance in today’s journalism' under the guidance of Mr. Tushar Bhatt, a senior editor and journalist. He was awarded a Ph.D. degree on 'Human rights reflected in Journalist Gandhiji’s writings (With special reference to removal of untouchability)' under the guidance of Dr. Raghuveer Chaudhary, a senior litterateur and professor.
Prof. (Dr.) Ashwinkumar teaches Principles of Communication, Development of Media, Gandhiji's Vision of Mass Communication, Media Ethics & Laws, New Media Applications. His area of special interest is M.K. Gandhi’s communication, Gandhiji’s journalism, Mahatma Gandhi’s time management, Newspapers' language, and Photojournalism. He is M.Phil. guide since 2002 and Ph.D. guide since 2015. He has presented research papers in seminars. He has delivered lectures on different subjects. His research articles and general interest articles published in esteemed journals and magazines. He is associated with youth activities. He is an active member of academic committees.
Ashwinkumar was a co-editor of ‘Abhidrushti’, a monthly views paper for higher education, from 2002 to 2012. He wrote a weekly column on humour called 'Halave Halese' published on the editorial-page of 'Divya Bhaskar' daily. Prior to that, a weekly column on humour called 'Halave Haiye' was published in 'Kalash' supplement of 'Divya Bhaskar'. His column on soCIeTY called 'Aapanun Amadavad' was published in 'City Bhaskar' of 'Divya Bhaskar'.
Prof. Ashwinkumar shares the pleasure and treasure of reading books. He updates a blog called 'Ashwiniyat' (http://ashwinningstroke.blogspot.in).
