'સને ૧૯૪૦ના બીજા વિશ્વયુદ્ધ વખતે વિદ્યાપીઠમાં સોજિત્રાના બે વિદ્યાર્થીઓ અભ્યાસ કરતા હતા. તેમના પિતાશ્રી બોર્નિયોમાં હતા. ત્યાંથી તેમણે સેન્ટ્રલ બૅન્કને તાર કરી એ વિદ્યાર્થીઓના ખર્ચ માટે વિદ્યાપીઠને રૂ. ૨૦૦૦/- આપવા જણાવ્યું. પણ સેન્ટ્રલ બૅન્કે માત્ર તારના આધારે રૂપિયા આપવાની ના પાડી અને કોઈ પ્રતિષ્ઠિત વ્યક્તિની જામીનખત ઉપર સહી કરવાની સૂચના કરી. શ્રી ઇન્દુમતીબહેનને વાત કરતાં તેમણે તરત જ આ વાત સ્વીકારી અને બૅન્કમાં આવી જામીનખત ઉપર સહી કરી આપી. એમને રૂ. ૨૦૦૦/- અપાવ્યા. આ બે વિદ્યાર્થીઓ પૈકીના એક શ્રી કાન્તિભાઈ પટેલ આજે જાણીતા શિલ્પી છે અને અમદાવાદમાં ગાંધીપુલના નાકે ગોઠવાયેલું ગાંધીજીનું બાવલું તેમણે બનાવ્યું છે. તે ઉપરાંત તેમણે સરદાર વલ્લભભાઈ, ભાઈકાકા, વિઠ્ઠલભાઈ પટેલ વગેરેનાં બાવલાં બનાવ્યાં છે અને થોડા સમયમાં અમેરિકામાં - ન્યૂ યૉર્કમાં મુકાનારું ગાંધીજીનું બાવલું પણ તેમણે તૈયાર કર્યું છે.' લખાણમાં મુદ્દો સહજપણે એવી રીતે સ્પષ્ટ કરી દેવો કે, જેથી કરીને આવી સ્પષ્ટતા કરવાની જરૂર ના પડે :

'આ મુદ્દો અહીં બરાબર સ્પષ્ટ થઈ જાય છે.'

6TH Annual International Photography Contest 35AWARDSમાં કુલ 173 દેશમાંથી 123418 ફોટોગ્રાફર મિત્રોએ ભાગ લીધો હતો. જેમાં કુલ 444 હજાર ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ સબમિટ કરવામાં આવ્યા હતા. તેમાં પ્રથમ રાઉન્ડમાં માત્ર 3% ફોટોગ્રાફર્સના ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ પસંદ કરવામાં આવ્યા હતા. બીજા રાઉન્ડમાં તેમાથી 21% ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ ત્રીજા રાઉન્ડ માટે પસંદ પામ્યા હતા. અને ત્રીજા રાઉન્ડના અંતે દુનિયાના Top 300 ફોટોગ્રાફરમાં પસંદગી થયા બાદ વાઇલ્ડ લાઇફ કેટેગરીમાં Top 100 Nominet ફોટોગ્રાફ્સમાં આ ફોટોગ્રાફની પસંદગી થઈ. આ પસંદગી કરવા માટે દુનિયાના 50 દેશના 50 નિર્ણાયકો દ્વારા સમગ્ર પ્રક્રિયા કરવામાં આવી. સ્પર્ધાના અંતે આ ફોટોગ્રાફ 'વાઇલ્ડ લાઇફ કેટેગરી'માં દુનિયાના Top 50 અને તેમાં પણ 35મા ક્રમે પસંદગી પામ્યો. સાથે સાથે ભારતના Top 100 ફોટોગ્રાફર્સમાં તેમજ અમદાવાદના Top 10 ફોટોગ્રાફર્સમાં પણ સામાવેશ થયો હતો.

આ ફોટો ગીર અભ્યારણ્યની નજીક આવેલા એક ખેતરમાં લીધેલો છે. જ્યારે હું ગીર અભ્યારણ્ય ગયો હતો ત્યારે એક સાંજે લટાર મારવા નીકળ્યો હતો. ત્યાં એક ખેતરના છેડે આ કેમેલિયન ઇયળનો શિકાર કરતાં નજરે પડ્યો. એક-બે ઇયળનો શિકાર તેણે કર્યો ત્યારે હું તેને બરાબર જોતો રહ્યો. મને લાગ્યું કે હજુ એ એ-બે ઇયળનો શિકાર કરશે. એટલે તરત મેં મારો કેમેરા કાઢી આ ફોટો ઝડપી લીધો. સામાન્ય રીતે તેની શિકાર કરવાની ઝડપ એટલી બધી હોય છે કે આંખના પલકારમાં તે શિકાર કરીને આરોગી લે છે. આ તસવીર લેવાની તક મને મળી તે મારા માટે ખૂબ આનંદની વાત કહેવાય. કેમેલિયનની આવી લાક્ષણિક તસવીર બહુ ઓછી જોવા મળે છે.

આજથી તાપી તટે ‘દિવાદાંડી’ની ભૂમિકામાં ‘લોકસત્તા-જનસત્તા’ અખબાર

આ એ ભૂમિ છે, જ્યાં નર્મદે ‘દાંડિયો’ પીટયો હતો. આ એ ભૂમિ છે જેણે પરતંત્ર ભારતને દાંડીની દિશા દાખવી હતી. એ ભૂમિ પર આજે ‘સત્ય’ વધુ એકવાર ‘દિવાદાંડી’ બનવા ખડું થઈ રહ્યું છે - નીડર અને નિષ્પક્ષ અખબાર ‘લોકસત્તા-જનસત્તા’ સ્વરૂપે.

આ દિવાદાંડીનો પ્રકાશ દિશાભાન ભૂલેલા શાસકોને સાચા માર્ગે વળવા આંગળી ચિંધશે. ન્યાય અને અધિકાર પેટે સવલત-સુવિધાઓ માટે ઝઝુમતા નાગરિકો કાજે ‘મશાલ’ રૂપે પ્રગટશે. ચોથી જાગીર તરીકેની રચનાત્મક અને જરૂર પડયે કઠોર ભૂમિકા ભજવવાના ફોલાદી સંકલ્પ અને સ્વભાવ સાથે ‘લોકસત્તા-જનસત્તા’ આજથી સુરતની પોતાની સ્વતંત્ર-અલાયદી આવૃત્તિ સાથે આપની સમક્ષ પ્રકટ થઈ રહ્યું છે.

દીર્ઘકાળ સુધી વડોદરા-સુરત ખાતેથી ‘લોકસત્તા’ અને અમદાવાદ તથા રાજકોટ ખાતેથી ‘જનસત્તા’ના મથાળા હેઠળ પ્રકાશિત થઈ ૧૯૫૨થી ગુજરાતના તમામ ક્ષેત્રે અસરકારક ભૂમિકા ભજવનાર એક સમયના પ્રતિષ્ઠિત અંગ્રેજી અખબાર જૂથની ગુજરાતી આવૃત્તિઓ તરીકે માન-મોભો મેળવનાર ‘લોકસત્તા-જનસત્તા’ હવે વડોદરા સ્થિત ઈન્કપોટ પબ્લિકેશન પ્રા.લિ.ની માલિકીનું બન્યું છે. આ ગાળા દરમિયાન વચ્ચેના થોડા સમય અખબારી વિશ્વમાં પાછલી હરોળમાં ધકેલાઈ ગયેલું ‘લોકસત્તા-જનસત્તા’ હવે પુનઃ નવા જાેમ-જુસ્સા અને ઝનૂન સાથે છેલ્લા પાંચ વર્ષથી આગેકૂચ કરી રહ્યું છે. આ પ્રયાસના ભાગરૂપે વડોદરા ઉપરાંત અમદાવાદ આવૃત્તિનું પ્રકાશન સફળ રીતે સંપન્ન થયા બાદ આજે હવે આ અખબાર એની ત્રીજી સ્વતંત્ર આવૃત્તિ તરીકે ‘સુરત’ની ભૂમિ પર ડગ માંડી રહ્યું છે.

તંદુરસ્ત લોકશાહી માટે અનિવાર્ય એવી ચોથી જાગીરના મોકળા મેદાનમાં આ અખબાર વધુ એકવાર અસરકારક ભૂમિકા સાથે પોતાની ખ્યાતિના ઝંડા ગાડશે એમાં કોઈ બેમત નથી. અલબત્ત, આ માટે સહૃદયી વાચકો, વિતરકબંધુઓ અને વિજ્ઞાપનકારોની હૂંફ અને સહકાર અનિવાર્ય જ હોય એ સ્વાભાવિક છે અને એ અમને મળશે જ એવી અમને આશા છે.
